„Rīgas satiksme” campaign to explain factors which affect public transport keeping within schedules
In 87% cases, public transport arrives at stops in time, yet sometimes it is behind the schedule. Therefore on October 22 „Rīgas satiksme” launches an information campaign aiming to explain why sometimes public transport uses to be late. During the campaign, posters inside public transport vehicles and at stops will graphically show the key factors which may affect buses, trolleybuses and trams keeping within their schedules.
One of the factors of public transport sometimes being late is traffic congestions, as public transport runs on public roads and is fully dependent on the overall transport flow. Weather conditions, for example, rain and snow, also use to increase transport flow, and in winters icing of contact wires hinders traffic of trams and trolleybuses. As any other vehicles, public transport also may have technical problems, eliminating which may cause schedule not being observed. Another significant factor is road accidents, e.g. an accident on tram tracks which stops tram traffic. Schedule changes may be also caused by repair works, cars left close to tram tracks and other factors beyond the company’s control.
„Rīgas satiksme” notes that it ensures public transport keeping within the schedules as much as possible yet it should be taken into account that there are factors which cannot be influenced. „Rīgas satiksme” calls on passengers to be understanding and plan their trips in time.
